How far a music student is willing to push himself to succeed?

A young man named Andrew Neyman practises the drums at the best music school in the United States. His drumming catches the ear of Mr Fletcher, the most important teacher at the school and the conductor for its most important Jazz Band. His"teaching style" is very special, hence the title Whiplash ... That's the beginning of a fierce battle between the two...

Andrew, 19 anni, sogna di diventare il miglior batterista jazz della sua generazione. Al Conservatorio di Manhattan, dove si esercita senza sosta, la concorrenza è però feroce. Andrew, poi, vorrebbe entrare nella big band di punta, quella diretta da Terence Fletcher, professore tanto inflessibile quanto intrattabile. Quando infine riesce a raggiungere il suo scopo, sotto la guida di Fletcher, Andrew inizia la sua ascesa nella ristretta cerchia dell’eccellenza dei batteristi.
